This vase measures 4.5x4.5x7.75".
This piece is a real beauty! I used a traditional Japanese firing technique called Raku to create this piece. This is a quick firing process that involves taking the work out of the kiln while it is still glowing red hot. The piece is then put in a container with a tight fitting lid, often a metal garbage bin, and covered with a combustible material such as newspaper. The heat of the ceramic piece ignites the newspaper and then the lid is put back on causing the oxygen to be removed. This is called reduction firing and creates unpredictable and beautiful results.
